SAP IBP Sneak preview of 2505 release is out now. Similar to previous releases the Sneak preview has disappointed in most of the areas like Time Series Supply Planning, Demand Planning. There was some hope that we may see a glimpse of Harmonized Supply Planning in 2505 release but seems it has been delayed by ne quarter. Regardless of that there are some interesting developments in other areas like Order Based Planning, let’s walkthrough them together –

• AI Assisted Generation of SAP IBP formulas

A nice and cool feature is the ability to generate IBP formulas using AI assisted planning, the AI assistant would be able to process instructions from natural language and convert them into IBP formulas. The real life use case is still limited but it definitely adds a new trendy feature.

• Use time-varying customer service level targets in inventory optimization

With the new release its possible to define time varying service levels, previously this could only be defined as a static number. With this service levels can be more dynamic and can cater to scenarios like changes in demand pattern, seasonality, customer prioritization etc.

• Consideration of stock types in ATD

With the new release it would be possible to control which specific Stock types you want to consider for Deployment run as Available to Deploy ex – you want ton only Deploy Unrestricted stock and not Quality Inspection, there would now be a new option to assign ATD profile on Location Product level.  

• New Key figures for displaying Non Planning relevant orders

With the new release it would be possible to display non planning relevant outbound and inbound deliveries, previously you could only see this information in Projected stock app and to display this information in excel planning views one had to build a custom interface using CI-DS. There is still a downside that this is not done for all relevant demand types ex – Sales orders

• Locking behavior of Subnetwork

This is a big improvement, in the past there were always locking problem (bug) in SAP design that if subnetwork is planned it used to lock entire model and other Location Products outside subnetwork could not be planned in parallel. I think this would help simplify job schedule for lot of customers using IBP Order Based Planning.
